Read a filing
SECSift rebuilds each filing into one clean page, without changing a word or a number. Negative numbers show in red, and footnotes stay attached to the table they belong to.
Move around
- Contents: Open the contents list to see every section, and click one to jump to it. Long filings also list their tables.
- Search the filing: The find bar searches the whole filing at once, faster than scrolling when you know the word. See Search the filing below.
- In-filing links: A link inside the filing, like a table-of-contents line, takes you to the right spot in the SECSift view.
Search the filing
Ctrl+F opens the find bar. It searches the whole filing, text and tables, not only the part on screen. Enter moves to the next match, Shift+Enter to the previous one.
Type these in capitals to combine terms:
- AND: Both terms, in one paragraph, list or table.
revenue AND margin. - OR: Either term.
revenue OR sales. - NOT: Skip anything that holds the term.
revenue NOT deferred. A minus does the same:revenue -deferred. - Quotes: An exact phrase. This is also how you search for the word AND itself:
"research AND development".
Operators only count in capitals, so research and development still searches for
that phrase. Each one is marked in the box as you type.
The sliders icon holds five options:
- Match word variations: "increase" also finds increases and increasing.
- Whole word: "rate" stops matching corporate.
- Match case: "GAAP" stops matching gaap.
- Search tables only: Skip the prose and search the numbers.
- Skip routine text: Ignore what Sift faded. Needs Sift run, with routine text set to Fade or Hide.
Growth and common-size views
For any financial statement, you can switch on two views that usually take a spreadsheet to build:
- Growth: Shows how each line changed from the period before, as a percent. Trends like rising revenue or climbing costs jump out.
- Common-size: Shows each line as a percent of a base, like every income-statement line as a percent of revenue.
You turn these on per statement, and the original numbers stay one click away.
Reading settings
Open the settings gear to change how the filing looks. These are view choices only, and never change the filing itself:
- Show values in: Read numbers as filed, or scaled to thousands, millions, or billions.
- Wrap wide tables: Let wide tables wrap to fit instead of scrolling sideways.
- Page breaks: Show or hide the original page markers from the filing.
- AI table names: Gives each uncaptioned table a short, plain name. Paid feature.
- AI exhibit names: Names the images in a filing the same way. Paid feature.
Tip: Highlight any text and a small toolbar appears. From there you can ask the AI about it, save a note, copy a link to that exact passage, or flag it. See Ask AI and notes.
