SECSift Chrome extension
SECSift Chrome extension is not publicly available currently. It will be in the coming weeks.
The SECSift Chrome extension puts filings where you read about companies. Cashtag posts on Twitter/X and Substack link to the company's latest report, Stocktwits pages get a list of their companies in the popup, and EDGAR's own pages get SECSift buttons.
Most features work without an account. Connecting your SECSift account adds your alerts, favorites, and AI chat beside any page.
Twitter/X and Substack
Every post with a cashtag, like $AAPL, gets a pill under its text that reads "AAPL:
10-Q". Select the pill to open the company's latest annual or quarterly report on SECSift.
A post gets up to 12 pills. A cashtag that isn't an SEC filer, like most crypto, gets none.
The dropdown arrow beside a pill lists the company's latest annual report, quarterly report, current report, and proxy, each with its form and date, and then "All AAPL filings".
On Substack, the pills sit under a note's text and above a post's body. Publications on their own web address, rather than substack.com, don't get pills.
Stocktwits
On Stocktwits, open the extension's popup from the Chrome toolbar. The popup lists the company the page is about, then others the page's posts mention, up to 12 in all, each with its latest filings.
EDGAR
The extension adds SECSift to EDGAR's own pages:
- Filing pages: A gold button at the bottom right, like "Open 10-Q", opens that exact filing on SECSift. The button shows on a filing's document, its index page, and the inline XBRL viewer.
- Company pages: The same button reads "Open AAPL" and opens the company on SECSift.
- Filing lists: The company filing list, the latest-filings feed, and full-text search give each filing a small SECSift button. When your full-text search was one quoted phrase, the button opens the filing on that passage. A match inside an exhibit opens at the top.
Search from anywhere
Type your words in the search box in the extension's popup to run a global filings search on SECSift. Or highlight text on any page, right-click, and choose "Search SECSift for" followed by your text.
The search box works without connecting the extension. Searches run on SECSift, which needs a free account.
Connect your account
Select "Connect SECSift" at the top of the popup. SECSift opens in a new tab, where you select "Connect". If you're signed out, sign in to SECSift first. There's no password to type into the extension.
Connecting adds:
- Alerts on the toolbar: Your unread count on the icon, and your alerts in the popup. Alerts are on the Analyst and Pro plans.
- Favorite EDGAR filings: A star beside the gold button adds the filing to your favorites.
- AI chat on any page: Ask this filing, in Chrome's side panel.
Alerts in the popup
The popup lists your alerts, pinned ones first and then the newest. Each alert names its kind (Company, Owner, Keyword, or Screen) and what the alert found.
Select an alert to open its filing, which also marks the alert read. Hover over an alert with your cursor to see "Mark as read" (or "Mark as unread") and "Delete".
"Mark all read" (envelope icon) in the section's title marks every alert read, and "All alerts" opens the alerts dialog on SECSift.
The list loads more as you scroll. Drag the list's bottom edge to make the list taller or shorter, and double-click the edge to reset the height. Select the section's title to collapse the section.
The count on the icon checks for new alerts every 10 minutes. To hide the count, turn off "Show the unread count on the icon" in the "More" menu (three dots icon).
Ask a filing
The side panel puts Ask this filing beside whatever page you're on. Open the panel with "Ask a filing" in the popup, "Ask AAPL's filings" in a pill's menu, or the Ask button (sparkle icon) next to the gold button on EDGAR.
The panel starts with a company search, the companies the page names on Twitter/X, Substack, and Stocktwits, and the filings you viewed recently. Choose a company, then one of its filings from the same list the reader shows, and ask your question.
The side panel runs the reader's own chat, with the same answers, the same links to the source, and the same 3 credits a message.
The conversation syncs both ways. Open the filing on SECSift and the chat is there, and a question asked in the reader shows up in the panel.
"Recently viewed" lists the filings you opened. Each row has a star to add the filing to your favorites and an ✕ to remove the row, and "Clear" empties the list.
Settings
Each part of the extension has its own switch under "Settings" in the popup:
- Show pills under cashtag posts: Twitter/X, Substack, and Stocktwits, each on its own.
- Show SECSift buttons on EDGAR: The gold button on filing and company pages, and the button on each filing in lists and search.
- Search SECSift from the right-click menu: Adds "Search SECSift for" to the menu you get when you right-click selected text.
"Open SECSift in a new tab", in the "More" menu (three dots icon), chooses whether SECSift links open in a new tab or replace the page you're on.
Toggle between light and dark mode with the theme button (sun or moon icon) beside the three dots. The extension's theme is separate from the site's, and applies to the popup, the side panel, and the pills on Twitter/X and Substack.
Until you select a theme, the extension follows your computer's setting, and the pills match the page they sit on.
Privacy
The pills, the popup, and the EDGAR buttons read company and filing data from the SEC's public files. The extension refreshes its copy of the SEC's company list every day, and each company's filings every hour.
Without an account, the extension sends SECSift nothing until you open a link.
With an account connected, the extension talks to SECSift for your account's features, like alerts, favorites, and chat. On EDGAR, the extension checks each filing you open against your favorites, so the star shows filled for a saved filing.
The key that connects your account is made in your browser. SECSift stores a fingerprint of the key and its first few characters, never the whole key.
