Ask this filing

Ask this filing is a chat that reads the whole filing, so you can ask about the document as a whole instead of one passage at a time. Open the chat with the "Ask this filing" button (sparkle icon) in the bottom right of a filing.

Ask AI answers about a passage you highlight. Ask this filing answers across the whole document, so use the chat when your question spans sections.

Links that jump to the source

When an answer quotes the filing or names a section, the quote or section name becomes a link. Select the link and the filing scrolls there and flashes the passage. SECSift only makes links for text it finds in the filing.

Answer actions

Hover over an answer with your cursor to see its actions:

  • Copy answer (copy icon): Copies the answer to your clipboard.
  • Ask again (circular arrow icon): Asks the same question again, for another 3 credits, and clears everything after that question.
  • Save as note: Saves the answer as a note on the first passage the answer links to.
  • Edit question (pencil icon): On your own messages, changes the question and asks again, for another 3 credits.

Select "Maximize" at the top of the chat to open the conversation in a bigger window. Select "Reset chat" (circular arrow icon) at the top to clear the conversation and start over. Resetting also deletes the saved chat on every device.

Your chats

Each filing's chat is kept with your account, so the chat is still there when you open the filing again, on any device.

Select "Your chats" (back arrow icon) beside the chat's title to see every chat you have, pinned ones first and then the newest. Select a chat and its filing opens with the conversation.

The filing you have open is highlighted, and shows as "New chat" until you ask a question.

Hover over a chat with your cursor, then select the three dots to see its options:

  • Pin: Keeps the chat at the top of the list. You can pin up to 3.
  • Delete: Removes the chat and its messages. A deleted chat can't be brought back.

"Delete all chats", at the bottom of the list, deletes every chat, pinned ones included.

Free keeps your last 10 chats, Analyst your last 120, and Pro your last 250. Once you're close, the list shows how many you have against that number. Past that number, a new chat replaces the oldest one that isn't pinned.

Unpinned chats you haven't used in a year are deleted.

The SECSift Chrome extension shares the same chats. A question asked in the extension's side panel is there when you open the filing here, and the other way around.

Limitations

The chat only knows the filing you have open, plus Sift's results and the comparison once those have loaded.

Ask what wording changed since last period and the chat asks you to turn on Compare first. Ask what Sift flagged and the chat asks you to run Sift first.

Answers on Forms 3, 4, and 5 have no links, and the chat isn't available on filings sent as a PDF. The chat always runs on one model, whatever you choose under "AI model".

Cost

The chat needs a free account and costs 3 credits a message, on every model. That's about 30 messages on Free, 330 on Analyst, and 1,000 on Pro, if you spend your credits on nothing else.

A reply to small talk, like "thanks", is free. Reading the filing stays free. See plans and credits.
