SECSift API

The SECSift API brings filings, sections, tables, search results, and comparisons into your own code, with the same data the reader shows. The API is part of the Analyst and Pro plans.

Get started

Your first answer takes three steps:

  1. In the reader, sign in, open any filing, and create a key under "API keys" in the account menu at the bottom of the left sidebar.
  2. Save the key in your terminal as SECSIFT_KEY.
  3. Ask for Apple's latest filings:
curl "https://api.secsift.com/v1/companies/AAPL/filings?limit=5" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SECSIFT_KEY"

The quick start walks through each step, from a new key to the numbers in Apple's income statement. To skip the terminal, open "Send this call" under any endpoint in the endpoint reference.

What you can pull

Here's what the API covers:

  • Filings and sections: Find a company by ticker, name, or CIK, list its filings back to 2001 by form, 8-K item, category, or date, and read any section as text.
  • Tables and numbers: Get any table as filed and as numbers, with what to multiply each figure by, in JSON or CSV, and name every table in a filing with AI.
  • Table history: Follow one table across up to 20 of the company's filings, with the rows lined up by label.
  • Full-text search: Search every filing on EDGAR since 2001 for words or a phrase.
  • Filing comparison: See what's new, changed, and removed since an earlier filing, down to the figures that moved in a table.

The endpoint reference lists every endpoint with its parameters, an example call, an example answer, and a panel to try the call.

Requests and answers

Every endpoint sits under https://api.secsift.com/v1 and takes GET requests, with your key in the Authorization header. Answers come in JSON, and a table or a table's history can also come as CSV.

A path names a company by its ticker, like AAPL, or its CIK, like 320193. A path names a filing by its accession number, like 0000320193-25-000079, which the filings list gives you.

Plans

The API is part of the Analyst and Pro plans, with a daily allowance of calls:

  • Analyst: 1,000 calls a day.
  • Pro: 5,000 calls a day.

API calls never spend credits, and most calls count once. See limits and errors for the calls that count more, and how to pace a script.

Other tools

The same API keys work with the MCP server, which brings SECSift into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other AI chats.

The SECSift Excel add-in runs on the API too, importing tables into your workbook and pulling figures into SECSIFT formulas.
