SECSift Excel add-in
The SECSift Excel add-in imports tables from a company's annual and quarterly reports into your workbook, and pulls figures into your own model with SECSIFT formulas. The add-in runs on the SECSift API, part of the Analyst and Pro plans.
What you can do
The "SECSift" button at the end of Excel's "Home" tab opens the add-in's task pane. The pane has four tabs:
- Tables: Find a company's filing and import any of its tables, as the filing prints the table or merged across up to 20 recent filings, with a link back to the table on SECSift. See import tables.
- Formulas: Build a SECSIFT formula that pulls one figure, a whole table, or a table across filings into a cell. See SECSIFT formulas.
- Options: Choose how imported tables look, from period labels like FY2025 to units, borders, fonts, and colors. See import options.
- Workbook: See every table you've imported, jump to a table, and refresh or remove tables.
"Refresh this workbook" (circular arrow icon) at the top of the pane refreshes every imported table and SECSIFT formula in the workbook.
Install the add-in
The add-in isn't listed in Microsoft Marketplace. To add the add-in to Excel on the web, upload its manifest file:
- Download the SECSift manifest file.
- Open a workbook in Excel on the web, then select "Home", "Add-ins", and "More Settings".
- In the "Office Add-ins" dialog, select "Upload My Add-in", browse to the manifest file, and select "Upload".
The "SECSift" button appears on the "Home" tab. Excel on the web keeps an uploaded add-in in your browser, so another browser, or clearing this browser's data, needs the upload again.
In Excel on Windows or Mac, add the manifest with the steps in the Office add-ins guides for Windows and Mac. The add-in needs Excel for Microsoft 365, Excel 2021 or later, or Excel on the web.
The first time the pane opens, connect the add-in to your SECSift account:
- On Excel's "Home" tab, select "SECSift" to open the pane.
- Select "Sign In with SECSift". A SECSift window opens.
- Sign in to SECSift if you aren't signed in already, then select "Connect".
Connecting makes an API key labeled "Excel add-in", which shows under "API keys" in your SECSift account menu. On a Free account, the window says "Excel needs Analyst or Pro" instead, with a link to the plans.
An account can have 5 keys at a time. When all 5 are in use, connecting replaces your oldest "Excel add-in" key, and the computer that used that key is signed out of the add-in. If none of the 5 is an "Excel add-in" key, revoke one under "API keys" first.
To sign out, select the three dots at the top right of the pane and choose "Sign Out". Signing out doesn't revoke the key, so revoke a key you no longer use under "API keys".
API calls
The add-in's calls count toward the daily allowance your API keys share, 1,000 calls a day on Analyst and 5,000 on Pro. The count resets at midnight UTC, and API calls never spend credits.
Here's what costs a call:
- Finding: Each new company search, filings list, and list of a filing's tables costs 1 call.
- Imports: Each table costs 1 call, or 2 when the table merges more than 12 filings.
- AI table names: Naming a filing's tables costs 2 calls for each table in the filing.
- Formulas: Each different answer costs 1 call, and cells that read the same table share that call.
- Preparing: Waiting while SECSift prepares filings for the first time is free. A table that merges filings costs its calls once, when every filing is ready.
A refresh, or an import of more than 10 tables, asks first and shows its cost in API calls. The log at the bottom of the pane lists what each import and refresh used.
To see today's count, select the three dots at the top right of the pane. When the day's calls run out, the add-in stops sending calls until midnight UTC.
Limits
The add-in has a few limits of its own:
- Imports: Up to 100 tables at a time.
- Formula grids: Up to 500 SECSIFT.VALUE formulas at a time.
- Filings: The 40 newest annual or quarterly reports in each company's list, and up to 20 filings merged into one table.
Note: Anyone who has your key can use your daily API calls, and your credits through the MCP server. On a shared computer, sign out of the add-in and revoke the key under "API keys".
